Ocean & Breath:
an Ashtanga and Surf Retreat with Matt Corigliano
2025 | November 3 — 9
Join us at flowground for a week of practice, ocean air, and connection. Matt Corigliano will be leading his first retreat here, bringing together traditional Ashtanga Yoga, surfing, and time outdoors on Sri Lanka’s beautiful south coast.
Matt has been teaching retreats for over two decades in places like Hawaii, Bali, Thailand, and Portugal. His approach blends the structure of Ashtanga with a love for movement and the sea, encouraging a practice that’s steady yet adaptable, serious yet playful.
This isn’t a retreat where every hour is scheduled. It’s a chance to explore practice, enjoy the waves, and find space for yourself in good company.
how the days flow
Mornings begin in our indoor shala with Mysore-style Ashtanga practice, where you’ll work at your own pace under Matt’s guidance. Whether you’re experienced or just getting started, there’s space for you to develop your practice with individual support.
After yoga and breakfast, the rest of the day is shaped by the ocean and the energy of the group. Surf sessions are planned around the best conditions and open to all levels. Afternoons might bring breathwork, ice baths, swimming, or quiet time by the pool or beach. The idea is simple: some days are full of activity, others lean into stillness and rest.
Nothing is forced or rigid. We follow the rhythm of nature and what feels right for the group.
a week to reset
This retreat is open to anyone looking for a week of movement, nature, and space to breathe. You don’t have to be advanced in yoga or surfing. The focus is on being present rather than perfect, and finding balance on the mat, in the water, and in between.
Matt teaches with honesty, warmth, and a sense of humor. His style is down-to-earth, shaped by years of practice, time spent outdoors, and a belief that yoga is something to live, not just perform.

about Matt
Matt Corigliano grew up in Hawaii, surrounded by both the ocean and Ashtanga Yoga. Although he spent much of his youth in the surf rather than on a yoga mat, everything shifted when he practiced with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois during a special visit to Hawaii. That experience led him to study in India and, in 2004, he was authorized to teach by the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.
Since then, Matt has led retreats in various countries, sharing a style of teaching that blends discipline with adaptability, tradition with curiosity, and a love for being outdoors. His focus is on helping students build a sustainable practice that supports health, joy, and presence in daily life.
